VISION Writers Group was founded in September, 1996 by Rowena Cory Daniells, Marianne De Pierres and Adrianne Fitzpatrick.
VISION Writers Group
VISION was formed to give science fiction, fantasy and horror writers in Queensland a chance to meet their peers, have their work critiqued and critique the work of others. We’re about writing, critiquing, sharing experiences and expanding the opportunities for speculative fiction writers in Queensland and Australia. And that’s what we do.
The group is centred on our monthly meetings and the Groups.io discussion list. Our aim is to foster a literature-based speculative fiction community that produces good stories and good writers.
Meetings run from 11am to 2pm on the first Sunday of each month, except for January and December. We meet at The Brisbane Square Library, 266 George St, Brisbane.
Meetings are free of charge.
It is preferred that submissions for critique be uploaded to the File area of the Groups.io discussion list. The works can then be downloaded by members who read the submissions and write notes ready for the critique session at the next month’s meeting. If you are submitting a piece to be critiqued, please remember to save the file as an .rtf (rich text format) as this file type can be read by almost any computer.
We request no works longer than 5,000 words (just over is acceptable, eg/ 5,200 can get by in a pinch) and please be aware we do not critique more than six pieces a meeting due to time constraints.
We also share news of our successes and failures, and discuss views about places to publish our work. Come along sometime and see for yourself.
If you are considering coming for the first time, but aren’t sure what to do or bring this post gives you some good ideas. Though a few years old it’s still entirely relevant.
